Pittsburgh Steelers Win and Lose in Regular Season Finale

Steelers Clinch AFC North

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers met Sunday night to battle it out for the AFC North title. After a hard-fought game from beginning to end, it was the Steelers that came out on top 27-17. Therefore, the Steelers have claimed the third seed in the AFC and the Bengals have fallen to the fifth seed.

Although this was a big win for the Steelers, they also lost a key component of their offense in the third quarter of this game. Le’Veon Bell, who has become one of the premier running backs in the NFL this season, left the game with a hyper-extended knee. The Steelers can only hope this is a minor injury and that he will be healthy at the start of the postseason.

This game was basically neck-and-neck all evening until late in the fourth quarter when Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown connected on a 70-yard touchdown to extend the Steelers’ lead to 27-17. This came off of a key turnover committed by A.J. Green on a play that would have extended a potential scoring drive to allow the Bengals to at least tie the game. There was just not enough time on the clock left for the Bengals to generate a comeback.

Based on the result of this game between the Steelers and Bengals, the playoff schedule is officially set. The Steelers will host the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night, and the Bengals will travel to Indy to take on the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon.

The Steelers look like a dominant team in that they will be hard to beat in the playoffs. But, in my opinion, they will need a healthy Bell against the tough Ravens defense if they expect to advance past the first round.
