The Philadelphia Eagles went into this past season with a ton of promise that went unfulfilled. With a fair amount of cap space for free agency and a newly-upgraded draft pick, the Eagles have a great opportunity to make their Super Bowl aspirations a reality. Here’s a too-early mock draft that should put the Eagles back on the right track.

1st Round: FS Gerod Holliman, Louisville

A rangy playmaker with uncanny ball skills, Holliman led all of college football with 14 interceptions. Those instincts are sorely lacking in Philadelphia’s secondary with Nate Allen, and Holliman would provide enough security to allow Billy Davis to get more creative with Malcolm Jenkins’ coverage abilities.

2nd Round: G Josue Matias, Florida State

Coach Chip Kelly loves size in his players and Matias has more than enough to spare, standing 6’6 tall and weighing 325 pounds. He’s a nasty, athletic player with a high motor who is extremely adept at run blocking. He will need some work on his pass protection and overall technique, but with some time to develop Matias could be the perfect replacement for Todd Herremans or Evan Mathis.

3rd Round: WR Tyler Lockett, Kansas State

Lockett is a burner on the field who can make plays happen downfield. He can play outside or in the slot and give the Eagles’ offense the sort of dynamic element missing since the release of DeSean Jackson. He’s also a great special teamer, a trait I’m sure both Kelly and coach Dave Fipp will appreciate. Injuries have plagued the young receiver, and he’ll have to learn how to reduce the number of hits he takes.

4th Round, Pick #1: CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Oregon

Ekpre-Olomu was well on his way to being a first-round selection until injuring his knee. However, some team will roll the dice on him and who better than his former college coach? Ekpre-Olomu has the speed and agility to play in the NFL, especially against burners like Odell Beckham Jr. and DeSean Jackson. He will have to learn to play more physical though, or he could be overwhelmed by larger receivers.

4th Round, Pick #2: CB Eric Murray, Minnesota

Murray is a tough player who will jam receivers at the line of scrimmage and has the speed to stay with them downfield. He doesn’t have impressive numbers, but that’s more due to how he was used as a man-to-man cover corner. Nonetheless, he’ll bring that physical presence to the secondary and could become what we all hoped Cary Williams would be.

5th Round: QB Bryce Petty, Baylor

The Eagles have already reportedly showed interest in Petty, and if he’s still around in the fifth round I expect the Eagles to jump all over him. He’s got the rightsize and mobility, and has the ability to get the ball down the field. It seems that the mental aspects of the game will be Petty’s major need for improvement, but the upside with Petty seems to be more than what Matt Barkley has shown.

6th Round: OLB Junior Sylvestre, Toledo

A solid project pick at this point, Sylvestre has the upside to develop into a key linebacker reserve. He’s got the coverage ability to match up against tight ends and backs. What Sylvestre doesn’t have is the size to beat blocks, and he may find himself swallowed up at the NFL level. But for a late round pick, Sylvestre has enough upside to warrant the selection.
