Another year, another missed postseason for the N.Y. Giants. The G-Men struggled with injuries and inconsistency on both sides of the ball, and finished the season under .500 for only the second time under head coach Tom Coughlin. With the offseason now upon them, these are five things the New York Giants must improve before the 2015 season.

The Giants started out the season in positive territory when it came to turnovers. But as their season wore on, they slowly dropped into the negative side of this statistic, and it was a big reason why they didn't make the postseason. Any doubters to that statement need only to look at the top five teams in this category to see that four of them made the playoffs and all were over .500. In 2015, they need to be on plus side of this ratio.

The Giants were one of the worst teams in running the ball. They ranked 23rd overall in rushing offense, with 3.6 ypc and 100.2 ypg averages. This put a lot of stress on Eli Manning to move the chains and put up points, which hurt their time of possession numbers. In 2015, the Giants need to be able to run the ball better to keep their defense off the field and their opponents pass rushers off of Eli.

Speaking of rushing attacks, the Giants defense could not stop anyone rushing the football. This was especially apparent when they faced a team with a proficient offensively in the read option. Statistically, they were third worst in the NFL against the run, giving up over 135 ypg and almost 5 ypc. They won't have much of a chance against anyone in 2015 if this continues.

2. Their Ability To Stop The Big Play

Many experts define a big play in the NFL as one that gains 25+ yards. In that respect, the Giants were the worst in the league in giving up these types of plays. They surrendered 108 big plays on the year, 16 more than any other team! For comparison, the Seahawks gave up 44 on the year. When a team is gaining chunk yardage like this against a defense, it's almost impossible to stop them from getting at least three points per drive.

This is something largely out of a team's control, but it is an issue that killed New York in 2014. They led the league with 22 players on injured reserve, and towards the end of the season were playing guys that weren't even on an NFL team in training camp. Whether it's managing offseason training, coaches focusing more on correct tackling or whatever it takes, the Giants starters need to stay on the field in 2015.
