Quarterback Andy Dalton has a lot to prove this Sunday as his Cincinnati Bengals go on the road to take on the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC wild card round of the playoffs.
The Bengals’ organization showed their confidence in Dalton last offseason by signing him to a very lucrative, six-year deal. Will he be able to overcome the inconsistencies he’s displayed this season and prove that he’s the franchise quarterback the Bengals believe he is?
The last playoff game the Bengals won was in 1990. And since Dalton has taken over the starting job, he is 0-3 in the postseason. His ability to overcome adversity and shun his doubters will be key to this game, which won’t be easy, going up against Andrew Luck and the NFL’s top-ranked passing offense.
To say Bengals fans are getting restless would be an understatement. This playoff win drought is currently the longest of any NFL team and this organization will be under a lot of pressure to break that barrier and finally end this playoff losing streak. With that said, all eyes will be on one guy and his ability to perform efficiently under this extreme pressure, and that, of course, is Dalton.
This will be a showdown of two talented quarterbacks who are more than capable of taking their teams all the way this year. So which one will show up Sunday and take the first step toward a 2015 Super Bowl ring?
My guess is that Dalton finally gets the job done.
