There’s no question 2014 was a season to forget for the New York Giants. With only six wins, there are plenty of areas to improve. Even though there are several free agents the Giants must consider bringing back in 2015, these five veterans may not return for New York.

All signs point to the Giants parting ways with safety Quintin Demps. The free agent went from being strictly a backup safety and kickoff returner to starting at strong safety after Stevie Brown was benched to losing his jobs on kickoff return and starting safety duties. With no realistic role available to him on the team, there’s no reason to believe New York will re-sign him.

Cornerback Walter Thurmond III only appeared in two games in 2014 due to a torn pectoral in Week 2. The good news is Thurmond, who played for the Seattle Seahawks for four years prior to signing a one-year deal with New York in 2014, is open to re-signing with the team. The reality is the Giants should keep him because he’s a quality slot cornerback. Still, there’s a chance they may not if he gets a better offer in free agency.

According to Pro Football Focus, offensive lineman John Jerry had a minus-16.4 run-block grade in 2014. Yeah, that’s not very good. Even though Jerry provides quality depth at offensive guard and offensive tackle, the reality is the Giants need to find players who have an all-around better game. This is especially the case considering the offensive line continues to be a work in progress.

Safety Antrel Rolle, who has been very good as a member of the Giants since 2010, will become a free agent in the offseason. Despite Rolle having a down season compared to what he accomplished in 2013, he still played rather good, at least good enough for the Giants to want to retain him. With that said, if New York believes he’s on the decline due to his production weakening, there’s a good chance they’ll let him walk in free agency.

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul had an outstanding season in 2014 in which he posted 77 tackles, 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. By far and away, it was the second best statistical season of his career. He was just as good against the run as he was getting after the quarterback, which makes him an ideal candidate for the Giants to re-sign in free agency, although another team could swoop in and make him an offer.
