After going 12-4 in the regular season, you might think that I’m nitpicking when I tell you that there are a few things that the Cowboys need to improve on in 2015. You might be thinking to yourself, “dude, this team is 12-4,” but trust me there’s always room for improvement. Here are five things that I think must improve during the 2015 offseason.

Brandon Weeden, QB, Dallas Cowboys

Despite, arguably, his best year statistically, I’m still worried about quarterback Tony Romo’s health. In fact, there aren’t very many times when I don’t hold my breath after seeing him get sacked or knocked around. I’m sure that this doesn’t come as a surprise, but the Cowboys must improve the backup quarterback situation in 2015. There is no reason Brandon Weeden should be back in 2015; none.

George Selvie, DE, Dallas Cowboys

In 2015, the Cowboys must undoubtedly improve the left defensive end spot. George Selvie was a great addition in 2013 but has since regressed. In 2013, Selvie registered eight sacks, however in 2014; he registered just three. I think that improving that left end spot, will not only help the Cowboys pass rush, but it will also help Tyrone Crawford turn some of his QB hurries and hits into sacks.

Chris Jones, P, Dallas Cowboys

I think that the Cowboys have to upgrade at the punter position. Chris Jones didn’t get a lot of work in 2014 thanks to the offense and believe me it was a good thing. There are times when he does a pretty good job, and then he’ll shank a 30-yard punt. I need the Cowboys to find a field position-changing weapon as they had when Mat McBriar was here.

Dwayne Harris, WR, Dallas Cowboys

The last position that I think can impact this team immediately is the kick returner position. Since 2012, Dwayne Harris’s return numbers have been on a steady decline, particularly his punt returns. In 2012, Harris averaged 16.1 yards per return, in 2013 he averaged 12.8 yards per return, and in 2014, Harris averaged just 9.5 yards per return.

It would be too easy to pick on Brandon Carr here, so for my last suggestion I will say that the Cowboys need to improve and continue improving their depth. You can never have too many good players.
