New York Jets Should Not Hope for Darrelle Revis Reunion

The New York Jets would sure love to get a reunion these days, especially one with an old cornerback who brought them much success in the past. It seems like an eternity since Revis Island was a staple on the Jets’ defensive secondary and now it just seems like a distant memory. Cornerback Darrelle Revis is no longer on the team and the Jets sorely miss the impact he had with them back in the day. Since Revis is more of a cornerback for hire these days, will the Jets ever get to have yet another chance to bring him back to the team that originally drafted him?

Absolutely not.

Revis has found as much, if not more success with the New England Patriots to the point of possibly even sticking around depending on how their NFL playoffs go this season. To be able to be part of a successful franchise, especially with future Hall of Famers in Tom Brady and Bill Belichick running the show, is something one can’t put a price on.

If anything, many predict that Revis will either stick around with the Patriots or even reunite with his old head coach in Rex Ryan wherever he ends up down the road. Should Ryan land another head coaching position elsewhere, one can see Revis heading his way, but it’s highly doubtful the Jets would even be an option after his contract is up this year.

Even owner Woody Johnson flirted with the idea of maybe having a reunion with Revis when he announced the departure of Ryan and general manager John Idzik, but they were just statements for the media really. Johnson had to later backtrack his statements because it would have been considered tampering. Either way, all a wasted effort in the grand scheme of things.

Everyone remembers the drama that came with Revis and his contract situation on a daily basis when he was a member of the Jets. The Patriots don’t do business the way the Jets do and all signs point to that they’d rather keep Revis for the long-term than let him go. Unfortunately, for those who wish a reunion could come into fruition again in 2015, the truth of the matter is Revis Island won’t be found anytime soon with the Jets.
