With the releases of Dwayne Bowe and Donnie Avery likely to come, the Kansas City Chiefs are sure to address the wide receiver hole aggressively. Unfortunately, it probably won't be with Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas. Bryant and Thomas are the types of players who a team clears space for and re-signs, or hits with the franchise tag. Here are five wideouts KC has a better chance of signing when free agency opens Mar. 10.

This is also a slim chance, but not as crazy as Bryant or Thomas. If KC signed Jeremy Maclin, it would likely be for a hefty price tag, and the Chiefs would probably get less production than Chip Kelly is able to get out of him. It would take some convincing to get Maclin to return to Andy Reid after his breakout season under Kelly. Regardless, he would be a big boost for Kansas City, so it's worth a shot.

Hakeem Nicks wasn't a big part of the Indianapolis Colts' offense this season, which could help KC get him for a discount. He could be a decent possession receiver for the Chiefs, however, if they sign him, more will need to be done to fill the gap at wide receiver.

Let's just keep passing Eddie Royal around the AFC West. The former Denver Bronco and San Diego Charger would be a nice addition for the Chiefs. His 15 TDs over the past two seasons show a knack for finding the end zone that KC receivers lacked in an embarrassing way this season.

A lack of big plays were a big weakness for the Chiefs in 2014. Torrey Smith will be one of the best solutions available if the Baltimore Ravens don't re-sign him. A career average of 16.9 yards per catch speaks for itself.

1. Michael Crabtree

Michael Crabtree had his best seasons with Alex Smith under center. His subpar 2014 campaign can partially be put on Colin Kaepernick's terrible performance and general offense ineptitude. With similar sizes and skill sets, Crabtree could fill Bowe's role with the Chiefs, and possibly surpass his performance. Signing him also wouldn't break the bank.
