The Dallas Cowboys Advance in the Playoffs, but Not Without Controversy

Who’s got two thumbs and is advancing to the next round of the NFL Playoffs? If you guessed Tony Romo, you, my friend, are correct.

It wasn’t easy, however, as the Dallas Cowboys came out flat in the first half and got manhandled by the Detroit Lions. But when it was all said and done, the good guys stood victoriously. This game had a little bit of everything, but the play that sticks out to me was a call that wasn’t.

The Lions were driving into Dallas territory, leading 20-17 in the fourth quarter when Cowboys rookie linebacker Anthony Hitchens was called for pass interference; but in a sudden turn of events, referee Pete Morelli picked up the flag seeming without giving any explanation.

As a Cowboys fan, I’m not going to complain when the calls go the team’s way, but in my opinion, that was blatant pass interference. Let’s face it, if it had been against the Cowboys, fans wouldn’t be living it down. It was also the play that changed the momentum of the game because on the following play, Lions punter Sam Martin shanked a 10-yard punt, which gave the Cowboys great field position. It was then that Romo and co. went to work, driving the ball downfield for the go-ahead touchdown and a 24-20 lead.

The Cowboys will be heading to Green Bay next week for a showdown at Lambeau Field with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. While it will be a tough test, I have faith that the Cowboys will get back to what’s gotten them this far; running the ball.
