For someone to be able to come up with the fantastic fantasy world of Game of Thrones, he has to be a rather dramatic person. The countless characters, mesmerizing action sequences and witty dialogue is nearly too creative for one man to come up with. The drama is about as intense as it gets, which all comes from the genius mind of George R.R. Martin.
Even though Martin was taking a break from writing his latest Game of Thrones novel, the drama still occurred at a raging level. So much so in fact that he felt the need to express the horror he witness on television.
Yes, the botched call that some claim cost the Detroit Lions a trip to the NFL divisional playoff round made Martin so furious that he felt the need to express himself using nothing but his words.
Martin wrote the following on his online journal:
“If I was a Detroit Lions fan, I’d be screaming for referee blood about that.
Picking up that flag on a FLAGRANT pass interference by Dallas in the fourth quarter was the worse call… or non-call… the NFL has seen since… well… since the non-call on the botched field goal attempt in the Giants/49ers playoff game ages ago.
Shocking. Really shocking.”
The game Martin is referring to happened 12 years ago. I personally cannot think of a more detrimental non-call in the playoffs since then so I guess I will give it to him.
Martin’s outburst is referring to the most talked about moment from the Lions-Dallas Cowboys Wild Card matchup on Sunday. A horrendous moment that saw the referees pick up the flag on Anthony Hitchens’ pass-interference penalty. There is no question he interfered with Detroit tight end Brandon Pettigrew’s ability to catch the football. Not to mention, he never got his head turned around to look for the ball. It was textbook pass interference and the referees initially got it right. The mysterious reason to pick up the flag was a huge mistake that has infuriated football fans outside of Dallas.
It should be noted that Martin is not a Lions fan. Therefore, his opinion is completely unbiased.
