5 Free Agents the New York Jets Should Not Sign in 2015

The New York Jets have plenty of needs and plenty of cap space this offseason, but that doesn't mean they should go out and spend recklessly. Free agency can be risky business, and the Jets have to make sure they find the right players to build for the future. With that in mind, these are five free agents that the Jets should avoid signing.

The Jets might move Breno Giacomini inside to guard, and if they do they will be in the market for a right tackle. Free is a respected veteran, but at 31 years old he is not a long term solution. Free would be a decent stopgap, but the Jets need to think long term on the offensive line. The Jets already have an aging line and are not going to contend right away, so youth has to be a priority.

There is talk of the Jets going after another free agent receiver, especially if they decide to part ways with Percy Harvin. There is nothing wrong with that plan, but it shouldn't be Crabtree. The 2012 season was the only time in his six year career when he looked like anything close to a No. 1 receiver, and the Jets would be better served to spend their money elsewhere. The Jets need a true star on the outside, not another No. 2 receiver.

The Jets need to boost their outside linebacker position and their pass rush, and if they stay in a 3-4 system Orakpo is going to be one of the biggest names out there. Don't make the mistake of falling for the name, because Orakpo has played in just 24 games over the last three years and is coming off the worst season of his career. Some players can be reclamation projects, but the Jets should not take that gamble on Orakpo.

Hardy might just be the most interesting player to watch in free agency. If the Jets convert to a 4-3, which both their top coaching candidates run, they will need a star pass rusher. There is no doubting Hardy's talent and production, but the Jets should not get involved due to his off the field issues. This is an organization that already has a circus reputation, and they shouldn't add a player as risky as Hardy.

For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone thinks Hoyer is a legitimate starting option for the Jets. We're talking about a player with a career 56.5% completion percentage, 19/19 TD/INT ratio, and 76.8 QB rating. Hoyer should be a backup, or at best a game manager for a good team. Although he is better than Geno Smith (barely), signing him would do very little to improve the team.
