The Chargers will be looking to upgrade their roster via free agency and the draft during the offseason, and with a few question marks at various positions, they need to look at spending some serious money. With over $20 million in cap space, they should be able to do just that. Their defense needs the most work, as reflected by the following list of five free agents the Chargers should sign in 2015.

Dunlap had a pretty good year for the Bolts, and the Chargers can most likely bring him back at a pretty low price compared to other left tackles in the NFL. Even if they go after a franchise LT in the draft, Dunlap would give them a ton of flexibility.

4. DT Terrance Knighton

Charger fans know Knighton well; he has been a pain in the Bolts' side over the last few years. Knighton is a space eater in every sense of the word, and could play either NT or DE in the Chargers 3-4 scheme. With the ability to both rush the passer and take up blockers in the run game, Knighton will be worth the -plus million a year the Bolts would likely have to pay to get him.

3. DE Jerry Hughes

To get Hughes, the Chargers might have to pay a lot, but he is worth it. Coming off back-to-back 9.5-sack seasons, he is the outside pass rusher the Bolts desperately need to pair alongside Melvin Ingram. His versatility and speed could put him either at DE or OLB, and his ability to force fumbles (five in the last two seasons) is an added bonus. The Bills want him back, so the Bolts won't get him for cheap.

2. ILB Rey Maualuga

With the emergence of Vontaze Burfict in Cincinnati, Maualuga has become expendable and will be a free agent in 2015. He was hurt for half of 2014, but saw two previous years where he was a dominant ILB for the Bengals, averaging almost 100 tackles during that timespan. Still in his 20s and without a long injury history, the Bolts could bring him in to compete with the disappointing Manti Te'o.

Ryan Mathews has worn out his welcome in San Diego due to injuries, and the Bolts probably won't bring him back as a free agent. Enter Mark Ingram, who is coming off a season where he rushed for just under 1,000 yards and nine TDs in 13 games. That was in a pass-first offense in New Orleans. He will want to be paid, but he could be the bruising back Mathews never was and balance the Bolts' offense out.
