The Chicago Bears made the first major step in attempts of improving on their disappointing 5-11 season with the hiring of Ryan Pace and their new general manager. In addition to finding a new head coach, Pace will also have to decide which free agents are worthy of pursuing this offseason. Personally, I feel that the Bears need more experience on the defensive side of the ball. With that being said, here are five free agents Chicago should sign.

Despite being buried on the Philadelphia Eagles’ depth chart, Brandon Graham still had a productive 2014 season with 5.5 sacks, 13.5 tackles for loss, 14 hurries, and four forced fumbles. Although the Eagles play in a 3-4 scheme, Graham is a linebacker who can also play in a 4-3. There is a chance that Philadelphia might re-sign Graham, but it wouldn’t hurt to give the Bears’ inexperienced linebackers some competition.

Even after an attempt to upgrade their safety position last offseason, the Bears can still use some help on the back end. Nate Allen has been a solid fixture in the Eagles’ secondary for five years, and he could help bring such solidity to Chicago’s secondary.

It’s highly unlikely that Chicago will re-sign middle linebacker D.J. Williams. Jon Bostic can potentially fill that void, but he is better suited to play on the outside. Rolando McClain has yet to reach his full potential in the NFL, but he could bring much-needed experience. Furthermore, the 25 year old can add some youth to a Bears team that was the third oldest in the league in 2014.

2. Antrel Rolle, SS, New York Giants

After playing 10 years in the league, Antrel Rolle is still playing at a high level. The 32 year old has shown great durability, only missing one game in the last seven years. Rolle can give the Bears some much-needed experience and talent in the secondary, and having played in two Super Bowls in his career (winning one in 2011), he can offer a winning attitude as well.

Since entering the NFL in 2010, Devin McCourty has been a main cog for the defense of the New England Patriots. During that span, McCourty has come up with 17 regular season interceptions. Chicago’s struggling defense can definitely use his ball-hawking skills, as well as his return skills on special teams.
