In such a short amount of time, Head coach Jeff Fischer has built a good foundation for the St. Louis Rams for years to come. The defense has improved and the offense has a few young stars. While the team won't have many selections in the 2015 draft, they will need to improve through free agency. Here are five players the Rams should sign in 2015 in order to make a run at the NFC West title.

The Rams had Lamarcus Joyner play safety for some of the season. He's a good player, but belongs as a nickel safety or slot cornerback. With T.J. McDonald anchoring the strong safety position, having a big-play guy across from him would solidify the Rams' secondary. Da'Norris Searcy had a great 2014 season with the Buffalo Bills, with three interceptions and 65 combined tackles.

The Rams have had one of the worst offensive lines in all of football. The team allowed Austin Davis and Shaun Hill to be sacked a combined 47 times. If they combined to be one quarterback, that would be third-most in the league. By moving Greg Robinson to left tackle and bringing in Mike Iupati for left guard, whoever the quarterback is would have great protection.

The Rams' passing offense improved as the season went on. Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey showed promise in the final weeks of the season, and Kenny Britt led all receivers with 748 yards. The Rams need a solid No. 1 wide receiver for Sam Bradford, or someone else, to use as a deep threat. With Randall Cobb set to become a free agent at age 24, the team could build around him for six to eight years.

2. OLB Sean Weatherspoon

The Rams' front seven was one of the best in the league. James Laurinaitis and up-and-comer Alec Ogletree are two impressive linebackers, and Jo-Lonn Dunbar weighs his teammates down. With the defensive line creating pressure, the Rams need an outside lineback to blitz the gaps. Despite missing 10 games in 2013 and the entire 2014 season with an Achilles injury, Weatherspoon can still disrupt the run and pass games.

The quarterback position is the biggest question mark heading into 2015, and Shaun Hill and Austin Davis are not the long-time solution. Sam Bradford is coming off two season-ending ACL injuries in as many years. If Bradford isn't healthy enough or ready to begin the 2015 season, the Rams will need a quick fill-in. Brian Hoyer will likely leave the Cleveland Browns. With tutelage from Jeff Fischer, he could help the Rams win some games.
