With a relatively immobile Aaron Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers needed playmakers to step up in Sunday’s Divisional playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys. With defenders keying on Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, rookie wide receiver Davante Adams answered the call.

A second-round pick out of Fresno State, Adams came up big in his first ever postseason contest, hauling in seven passes for a team-high 117 yards (16.7 average), including a sharp 46-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter. Adams looked more like a savvy veteran than a first-year pro on the play, catching a Rodgers throw in stride, juking Cowboys safety J.J. Wilcox and outrunning multiple Cowboys defenders en route to the end zone.

In an up-and-down rookie season, Adams entered Sunday’s game with 38 catches for 446 yards. His best game came against the New England Patriots in Week 13 when he caught six passes on 11 targets for 121 yards. His production fell off after that game, however, catching just 12 receptions for 28 yards in the last month of the season.

Adams reemerged at an opportune time, helping power the Packers to victory and into the NFC title game against the Seattle Seahawks next weekend.

With an undefeated season (9-0) at Lambeau Field in the books, the Packers will see how well their balanced offensive attack travels. If Adams’ breakout performance on Sunday is any indication, Green Bay has yet another serious weapon to challenge the Seahawks’ ball-hawking secondary.
