Dallas Cowboys Should Focus On Bright Future After Magical Season Ends

At the beginning of the year, no one gave the Dallas Cowboys a shot to even reach .500, let alone a chance to win the division or reach the Divisional Round of the playoffs; so, the fact that their season is over after a loss to the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau Field should not take away from what they were able to accomplish this year.

It’s sad that all everyone will ever talk about is the catch that wasn’t (but really was) by Dez Bryant this past Sunday.

No matter how much spin the NFL tries to put on it, you will never be able to convince anyone in Dallas that Bryant didn’t make a catch for the ages, but again, that shouldn’t overshadow what the Cowboys were able to do this year. They have solidified their offensive line and finally have an identity that can win consistently in this league. It’s been since the Emmitt Smith era that Dallas has had this dominant of a rushing attack, and they happen to have youth in both the offensive line and in the backfield.

DeMarco Murray proved that he can stay healthy for an entire season and that he can carry a team on his back when needed. The only thing he needs to do now is solve his fumbling issues so he can prove to his teammates and to the front office that he can be trusted when the season is on the line. This will go a long way for him when it comes time to negotiate for a long-term contract.

Tony Romo has proven that he is still growing as a quarterback and the leader of this team; he cut down on his mistakes this year and performed his best late in the season after battling back and rib injuries all year long. If it weren’t for an overturned call on that Bryant catch, we might have been talking about him finally solidifying his name in Cowboys lore with a Super Bowl championship.

Bryant is a bona fide superstar in this league, and he appears to be maturing and dedicating himself to being the best at his position. The Cowboys’ defense, after being universally viewed as a disaster entering this year, is just a few draft picks and free agent signings away from being a dominant unit as it has young talent at the linebacker, defensive tackle and end positions.

One can finally look and see that things are looking bright at Valley Ranch these days, and as long as Jerry Jones holds on to Jason Garrett and the rest of the coaching staff and he continues to listen to his scouting department, you should be reading about the Cowboys’ upcoming opponent in the NFC Championship Game this time next year.
