Seattle Seahawks Convinced Aaron Rodgers’ Calf Injury Better Than Letting On

There have been rumors that head coach Mike McCarthy, quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are overplaying Rodgers’ calf injury prior to the NFC Championship Game showdown against the Seattle Seahawks. Anyone who watched the NFC divisional playoff game between the Packers and Dallas Cowboys knows there is no way that could be true considering how much Rodgers was limping around. However, the Seahawks still are not buying into whatever they believe Green Bay is trying to sell.

“I’m not buying into this leg issue,” safety Earl Thomas said, according to ESPN. “I saw him scramble close to the goal line on the Cowboys, so he’s not fooling me with that. I’m not falling into that.”

Thomas is referring to when Rodgers broke outside of the pocket and found rookie tight end Richard Rodgers in the end zone for the impressive go-ahead touchdown. Rodgers did move with a little ease, but he also threw the ball between two defenders while clearly favoring his left calf.

Other players, such as safety Kam Chancellor are thinking along the same lines as Thomas.

“That’s the mentality you’ve got to have,” Chancellor said. “I’m not really concerned with his hobbly or wobbly calf, whatever. I’m concerned about Aaron Rodgers. If he’s in that game, no matter how he’s feeling, he’s still Aaron Rodgers. He’s capable of making plays, capable of getting the ball downfield, getting it to his receivers and just running their offense.

“So you’ve got to respect a guy like that. No matter what’s wrong with him, you can’t doubt him or say that it’s going to be a little different because he’s hobbly and wobbly. You don’t want any surprises, so just go in with that mentality and you won’t be surprised.”

I cannot imagine there will be many surprises in the game. Both teams know exactly what they are going to get when playing each other. As far as Rodgers is concerned, he has already shown against the Detroit Lions in Week 17 and the Cowboys in the playoffs that he can play with pain, which means there should be no surprises in that regard either.
