The Houston Texans had the best turnaround of any team last season, and appear poised to return to the playoffs if they can settle the quarterback situation. Still, there are a number of question marks surrounding the team and their ability to retain some high profile free agents. Here are five things to look for when free agency season rolls around.

5. Kareem Jackson will be wearing another uniform next year.

Kareem Jackson is going to be one of the top corners targeted in free agency, and although he has publicly stated that he wants to stay in Houston, it seems that he will need to go elsewhere to get paid. Unless a deal can be worked out before he hits the open market and sees what kind of money he can get, expect Jackson to be playing for somebody else.

4. The Texans bring in Jake Locker to compete for the QB job.

Locker’s time in Tennessee is up, and the Texans are in need of another option at the position. Ryan Mallett was brought in last year to take the reins and he may very well be the answer moving forward, but having a solid backup plan is never a bad thing.

3. Jermaine Gresham will sign with the Texans.

It is no secret that Houston needs help at the tight end position, and Gresham would be a welcome upgrade. While he isn’t a Julius Thomas level player, he will be affordable while Thomas won’t be.

2. Derek Newton will return.

Derek Newton is coming off his best season, and resigning him will be one of the top priorities of the offseason. The contract that he will demand will be markedly higher than his current one, but it will still be cheap enough to keep him on the roster.

1. Brooks Reed will test the market, but remain in Houston.

Another Texans defensive player who has publicly stated that he wants to remain in Houston, Reed is ready to test the open market. There will be a handful of suitors, but ultimately, the Texans will manage to keep him assuming that they don’t shell out the money on Kareem Jackson.
