Let’s be perfectly honest, Super Bowl Media Day has become an absolute joke. Members of the media from all over the world convened in Arizona on Tuesday afternoon to ask players from the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots all sorts of questions, ranging from the serious to “What is your favorite gas station snack?” That was in 100-percent seriousness a question posed to three-time Super Bowl champion and two-time Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady.

The charade of media day has become half (and that’s being generous) about asking questions that pertain to the game and half about “fake” media members trying to go viral on the internet with their costumes and absurd questions.

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has said before that he’s embarrassed to work for the NFL and he’s made it clear throughout the past couple seasons that he’s not a fan of the media. Besides “Barrell Guy,” Lynch was the star of media day as he once again made a mockery of the NFL media.

The power running back set a timer on his phone, sat down, and proceeded to answer every question sent his way with — “I’m just here so I won’t get fined.” After just under five minutes at his podium, Lynch looked down at his phone, said “time,” and got up and walked away from the microphone. When it was all said and done, Lynch said the phrase 29 times in total.

Word leaked shortly after Lynch left the booth that the NFL had threatened to fine him a ridiculous \$500,000 if he did not make himself available on media day. In a year where the NFL has received a considerable amount of negative publicity, Lynch has rightfully quickly become a favorite of fans who are not supportive of Roger Goodell or the league’s recent decisions as a whole. It will be interesting to see if any other players decide to follow Lynch’s lead and refuse to give the media any real answers.
