Although the Cincinnati Bengals have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, there are a handful of players who have underwhelmed over the past few seasons, leading to poor play, both in the regular season and the postseason. If the Bengals want to get over the hump and become legitimate contenders, these players need to be cut. That said, here are five players the Bengals will release this offseason.

As a 31-year-old defensive end who has never been anything more than an average player, Robert Geathers is likely nearing the end of his career in Cincinnati. Geathers just never lived up to expectations, and the Bengals need to find an upgrade.

A former-second round pick of the Cleveland Browns, Greg Little never lived up to expectations with the Browns and was eventually cut. After some time with the Oakland Raiders, Little found himself in Cincinnati, where he was only able to manage six receptions. With Marvin Jones slated to return in 2015, Little is as good as gone.

In recent years, the Bengals have drafted cornerbacks Dre Kirkpatrick and Darqueze Dennard in an effort to improve an underperforming secondary. Kirkpatrick enjoyed a breakout season in 2014, and Dennard appears primed to do the same in 2015, making the aging Leon Hall expendable. Younger alternatives are on the roster, and Hall's play doesn't deserve a roster spot anymore.

2. Shawn Williams

George Iloka has been great for the Bengals, but his backup, Shawn Williams, has been a bust since being taken in the third round of the 2013 draft. Williams was supposed to be a much better player at this point, and a change of scenery would be the best thing for him.

As a two-down tackle with an average skill set, Domata Peko is very replaceable, making it likely that the Bengals move on from him this offseason. Peko isn't worth the money anymore, and with several younger options with more potential sure to be available, the Bengals should move on.
