Anyone who is at all familiar with the NFL knows whom Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is. What many fans may not know is Watt’s background forces him to live a double life, something he plans to continue doing in the offseason after purchasing a log cabin that is in the “middle of nowhere” Wisconsin.

There is the version of Watt that is arguably one of the greatest pass rushers of all time and ultra-celebrity who is on pace to win his second Defensive Player of the Year Award in three seasons. Then there is the version of him who likes to retreat to his roots in the lovely state of Wisconsin, which consists of getting as far away from fame as possible.

The latter is the reason why he bought a log cabin that is nothing more than an empty space in a secluded part of his home state. It is there where Watt will enjoy quiet, the fallen snow and non-stop training to continue his pace of being a nightmare for opposing offenses. In fact, he will use the vacant barn next to his cabin to build a home gym to help with his preparation for the 2015 NFL season.

“It basically is who I am,” Watt said, according to the Houston Chronicle. “My friends said if we were to look at a house that’s you, (the cabin) is it.”

“It’s really minimalistic,” he continued. “The only thing I have to focus on is training and that’s the way I like it. There’s no frills, there’s nothing to distract you up here.”

It is comforting to know under the ferocity that is Watt there is a man who is simple as one can be. His ability to handle the bright lights and stardom while remaining close to where he comes from proves he is truly a special person.
