New York Jets Must Be Aggressive In Free Agency For Success

While many believe it’s always best to build your team through the draft, one can’t help but grab immediate upgrades in free agency. The New York Jets are in a prime position to be very active in free agency, which is what new general manager Mike Maccagnan said once he initially was brought into the organization.

Maccagnan is a man of extensive football knowledge and vast scouting skills. He will oversee all the moves the Jets plan to make in free agency and at the 2015 NFL Draft to do his very best to ensure a successful draft. It won’t be easy by any stretch of the imagination, but the Jets have the right guy at the helm to get the job done.

The Jets have much making up to do to their dedicated fanbase that last season probably had enough of their antics and disappointment. Owner Woody Johnson had no other choice but to clean house, start from scratch and build a new regime that knows all about making smart football decisions — the kind that will land top free agents that brings better overall talent to the Jets.

It’s all guesswork between now and the start of free agency to determine how they will fill all their team needs. The Jets can’t head into next season with their current depth at quarterback and cornerback, so it’s expected they will address both these weaknesses come free agency. In a good situation, they will acquire a veteran quarterback and cornerback to immediately fill these needs.

The Jets must bring in some marquee free agents who will not only be immediate contributors, but also bring some excitement back into the franchise. A reunion with cornerback Antonio Cromartie would be nice. Bringing in a top free agent quarterback like Brian Hoyer to compete for the starting job would be fun to watch as a quarterback competition develops this summer.

Heck, imagine the headlines the Jets would make if they brought in Demaryius Thomas to put him alongside his old teammate in Eric Decker. These are the kind of moves that would bring in some key pieces of the puzzle to put the Jets back on a better path.

Overall, the Jets are a while away from contending again, but they have a ton of confidence to at least put up a decent roster and effort in 2015. With better people running the show, it’s only a matter of time before all these decisions now pay off nicely in the future.
