Vince Lombardi, Bill Walsh and Tom Landry come to mind when discussing the greatest football coaches of all time. With his fourth Super Bowl victory, there is no question New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick deserves to be at the top of the list. These are the five reasons why Belichick is the best head coach ever with his Super Bowl XLIX victory.

Belichick’s incredible attention to detail allows his players to always be put in the best positon possible to succeed. Malcolm Butler is the hero of Super Bowl XLIX after his outstanding read on the final play of the game, which allowed him to make the game-clinching pick. It would not come as surprise if Belichick were behind the reason Butler was in the film room studying what happens when his receiver jumps to the middle as Lockette did.

The defensive-minded Belichick has been the architect of some impressive defenses over the years. However, what may be even more astonishing are the offenses he has put together. Belichick seems to surround Tom Brady with no-named players who always manage to get the job done. That is the only explanation for why the Patriots have continued to be as dominant as they have been over the past 15 years.

Belichick’s 211 wins rank fifth all time in NFL history behind four Hall of Fame head coaches. What makes it even more impressive is 175 of those wins have come with the Patriots. When including playoffs, Belichick’s record jumps to an unbelievable 232-118, with a postseason record of 21-9. His outstanding defensive and offensive schemes have allowed him to become the most successful head coach of the 21st century.

As the head coach of New England, Belichick has won a jaw-dropping six AFC Championships. All in all, he has appeared in nine AFC Championship Games since 2001, including four straight (2011-2014). No head coach in history has the same claim to fame, just as no head coach has more postseason wins than Belichick’s 21 victories in the playoffs.

With his win in Super Bowl XLIX, Belichick ties former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Chuck Noll with the most Super Bowl victories in history. Even though Noll was 4-0 in his Super Bowl appearances, Belichick actually appeared in more. In fact, his six Super Bowl appearances is tied with Don Shula for the most of all time. If the greatest players and coaches are determined by wins, Belichick is right up there with the best of them.
