Richard Sherman Should Ask Himself If He’s Mad After Super Bowl XLIX Loss To Tom Brady

As the final seconds ticked down and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady took the final snap of Super Bowl XLIX, the first person to congratulate him was none other than Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. In a show of great sportsmanship and humility, Sherman did what many would expect him not to do in this instance, which is to be gracious in defeat, especially for a guy who’s been known to be boisterous and outspoken.

For those who do not know the history behind Sherman and Brady, we need to go back to their 2012 matchup at CenturyLink Field, in which the Seahawks defeated the Patriots 24-23 and a viral photo of Sherman seemingly asking Brady, “You mad bro?” emerged. Instances such as this are not uncommon for Sherman, but if you ask him, he will tell you the incident was instigated by Brady, who constantly mouthed off to the Seahawks himself.

The thing is, Sherman needed to use whatever he can to motivate himself. Never quite feeling appreciated or respected for his rise in the NFL, he has taken to social media to call out some of the best players in the game such as Darrelle Revis, and even took on ESPN’s Skip Bayless in an epic debate.

At Super Bowl XLIX, Sherman was one quarter away from adding to his repertoire and ammunition against those who still doubt his greatness as the best corner in the game. With less than five minutes to go in the third quarter, Russell Wilson found wide receiver Doug Baldwin in the end zone to extend the Seahawks’ lead to 24-14.

Immediately after the touchdown, NBC cameras showed Sherman once again taking a shot at Revis as he mouthed, “Two, Four!”, accentuating the fact that he was beaten for a touchdown pass.

Ironically, it was Revis who got the last laugh as he along with the rest of the Patriots’ defense held the Seahawks scoreless for the remainder of the contest. In the end, there was no loud demonstrative postgame rant. There was only Sherman, hurt elbow and all, standing over Brady waiting patiently to shake his hand.

Who knows what was said between the two, and maybe it’s best we don’t know, but how befitting would it be if Brady whispered in his ear, “Who’s mad now, bro?”
