Though legend contests Chris Johnson's 4.24 seconds Combine record in the 2008 40-yard dash with Bo Jackson's 4.12 hand-timed sprint in 1986 and Deion Sanders' 4.2 time in 1989, Johnson's number stands as the official best time because it was electronic. Last year, Steelers running back Dri Archer came close with his 4.26 time. Here are five names with an outside chance at cracking sub-4.24.

The Big Lead's Jason McIntyre views Montgomery as the best Pac-12 receiver in the 2015 draft class. He'll likely need to shed around 10 pounds off his 220-pound frame before the Combine. If he does, then the multi-talented weapon has a chance to run sub-4.30 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

Smith has the speed for a WR who should grade out in the first round. His burst off the line is excellent, but he lacks naturally soft hands. As a result, he'll probably have to wait until the second round to see his name taken off draft boards.

He has better acceleration and quickness than he does overall break-away speed, so you can bet Agholor will being trying to make scouts eat their words at the Combine. 40 yards is not 60 or 80, so there's a chance he can build up some power in his hips and legs to improve his stride efficiency over that distance.

Coates has blazing speed but his hands are a real issue. He will likely get more touches as a return specialist in the NFL. Expect him to be a lock at running under 4.40 seconds.

Dorsett was a standout track and field athlete in high school. He also competed in track for Miami, where his 60 meter time of 6.80 seconds actually ranks fourth fastest in school history. He is widely regarded as the fastest NFL prospect entering the 2015 draft.
