If Randall Cobb hits the open market on March 10, there’s a very good chance the Oakland Raiders will make a serious run at the explosive wide receiver. That is, if the Green Bay Packers even let him leave Wisconsin.
By all accounts, the Packers are desperately attempting to get a deal done that will keep Cobb in Green Bay for the foreseeable future. However, if he does make it to free agency, the Raiders have made it clear that they will make a pitch for his services.
No shock, but hear expectation around NFL is #Raiders will make run at Cobb. But #Packers not expected to hit him hit FA.

The Raiders need copious amounts of help at the wide receiver position. Their best wide receiver, Rod Streater, was an undrafted free agent who spent most of the 2014 campaign sidelined by injury. Other options such as James Jones and Denarius Moore haven’t quite panned out as anticipated. That’s why adding a couple of quality wide receivers will be crucial for the Raiders’ future success.
With over $50 million in cap space available heading into the upcoming free agency period, the Raiders certainly have the spending power to lure him away from the Packers.
The only problem is figuring out how much the Raiders would have to pay Cobb to get him to part was with the Packers. It’s obvious why he’d want to return to Green Bay, but money has always been a deciding factor when it comes to the NFL. If the Raiders are willing to overpay for him, just how much would be enough to lure him away from Aaron Rodgers and Co?
The Raiders are expected to target a wide receiver – likely either Amari Cooper or Kevin White – in the first round of the upcoming 2015 NFL Draft. Even if they do land one of those pass catchers with the No. 4 overall pick, bringing Cobb aboard would still be a realistic option with the team looking to drastically upgrade quarterback Derek Carr’s arsenal.
It’s certainly going to be difficult for Oakland to convince Cobb to come to the Bay Area, but money talks. If they offer him enough, the Raiders might just land one of the top available talents of the 2015 free agent class.
