Biggest Philadelphia Eagles Draft Needs Before 2015 NFL Free Agency

Even with the major moves the Eagles have made so far, the roster shakeup is far from over. With free agency less than a week away, here are the five positions the Eagles may look to upgrade on the open market.

With Trent Cole gone and Brandon Graham appearing to be on the way out, the Eagles need that pass-rushing talent off the edge. All reports are that Jason Worilds is the guy the Eagles want and he’d fill a pretty big need on defense. Marcus Smith would be wise to take notes and learn all he can from him.

Now that LeSean McCoy is gone, the Eagles need a rusher that can handle the majority of the carries. But Darren Sproles is still around and running backs are very replaceable in this league, so I don’t have any fear of the Eagles’ rushing attack not being potent enough. There are plenty of options in free agency and the draft; the Eagles just need to pick the one they like the most.

3. Quarterback

If the Eagles don’t want Nick Foles, a starting quarterback is going to be priority No. 1. Or if Foles stays, a veteran backup is necessary. Either way the Eagles need a signal caller brought in. This need might wind up being even more important if Chip Kelly is going to go light on the skill positions and focus resources on defense -- his style of quarterback would be the offense’s entire engine.

2. Safety

The draft isn’t offering up many solid safety prospects and the Eagles desperately need a starter here. My prediction, and my hope, is that Devin McCourty comes to Philly, because I don’t think I'd like Plan B if McCourty goes elsewhere. The Eagles need to make a strong move here somehow -- Malcolm Jenkins can’t do it all himself.

The cornerback cupboard in Philadelphia is pretty bare now. The Eagles need two starters here badly, and if they’ve got their sights set on a certain type of player, filling this hole is going to be that much more difficult. Byron Maxwell would be a good start but the Eagles need that second guy somewhere, and it might not be from the draft if they sell the house for a certain Oregon quarterback.
