Two years ago no one would have guessed that once DeMarco Murray’s contract was up he would be the most sought-after running back in free agency. But he was able to overcome his injury issues and put all of his talents on display this past year, and in the process he showed just how valuable of a commodity he could be. So now that every team in the league knows what he can offer them, here are the five most likely landing spots for Murray.

This is an interesting one as the Eagles thought that LeSean McCoy had too high of a price tag to keep around this year. But head coach Chip Kelly wasn’t a fan of McCoy’s running style; he prefers someone who hits the hole hard, and that’s exactly what Murray has to offer. He may not have the speed Kelly craves, but his style is a nice complement to Darren Sproles and the Eagles now have the money to sign Murray.

It appears the Chargers have finally given up on Ryan Mathews and his constant appearances on the injury list. But ironically they may be looking to sign a player who also has a history of being injured and never playing a full 16-game schedule. The Chargers have one of the NFL’s better quarterbacks in Philip Rivers and they have a decent defense, so the pieces are in place. For Murray, will be is their offensive line good enough?

Murray says that he wants to go where he can win a Super Bowl, but players change their tune when they get out in free agency and see what teams really believe they are worth. So he may wind up taking the best offer that’s on the table, and Oakland has the most to spend this offseason.

The Colts are similar to the Dallas Cowboys in that they have a franchise quarterback, playmakers at wide receiver and an opportunistic defense. They also have a ton of cap space and were one game away from the Super Bowl. The problem is, their offensive line is a weak spot on the team, and there is no Dez Bryant to help take an extra man away from the box to help open up running lanes for him.

Murray is familiar with the coaching staff, the city, the offense and more importantly the offensive line. All Murray has to do is ask Emmitt Smith what having a young and dominant offensive line can do for your career. Plus, he plays for America’s team; there’s no bigger spotlight in the NFL than playing in Dallas. The Cowboys want him back and he wants to come back.
