The chase to sign Frank Gore seemed to be over Sunday afternoon. Multiple reports indicated the free agent running back would sign with the Philadelphia Eagles when free agency began on Tuesday. Now, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Gore has gotten cold feet and is reconsidering signing with the Eagles. The Indianapolis Colts are the other team in the mix and are making a last-minute effort to sign Gore.

If the financial terms of the contract are equal from both sides, you have to think the Colts have the advantage. Playing for a quarterback like Andrew Luck is appealing to any running back around the NFL. Considering the amount of turnover the Eagles have undergone to their roster this offseason, the Colts seem to be the safer bet at this point to be the more competitive team. With likely only one or two seasons remaining before Gore calls it quits on his incredibly successful career, he’s likely to choose the team that gives him the best chance of winning a Super Bowl. According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, this difficult decision had Gore in tears last night.

Throughout his career, Gore has been known as one of the most competitive players in the NFL. He takes losses extremely hard and deciding where to end his career can’t be an easy decision. Gore is the San Francisco 49ers all-time leading rusher and currently sits at No. 20 on the NFL’s All-time rushing yards list. In 2014, Gore rushed for 1,106 yards, the eighth season with 1,000-plus rushing yards in his career.
