If you are having a tough time understanding what some NFL teams are trying to accomplish this offseason, you aren’t alone. There have been a number of questionable transactions to put it mildly, and many of those misguided moves have been made by the same franchises. Whether it’s a case of habitual mismanagement or straight up incompetence at its finest, here are five teams that are having extremely confusing offseasons thus far.

Some teams just never learn that throwing money at problems isn’t a solution. Signing Rodney Hudson to the league’s richest contract for a center with their own free agent center, Stefen Wisniewski, still unsigned negates any potential continuity. Malcolm Smith won a Super Bowl MVP, but his numbers are underwhelming and hardly worth a two-year deal for $ 7 million. Nate Allen was frequently criticized in Philly, and that won’t change in Oakland.

Remember that supposed dream team the Philadelphia Eagles created a few years back? Yeah, that’s what this Indianapolis Colts squad is heading towards, and fittingly enough, they actually signed two members of that team in Todd Herremans and Trent Cole, both of whom are now 32 years old. Andre Johnson is close to being over the hill, and Frank Gore has already reached that point. This team would have been great a few years back, but not in 2015.

Trading Jimmy Graham is nearly unforgivable, but it would be at least semi-understandable had it been a part of a franchise rebuild. The signing of Brandon Browner indicates otherwise, however, and it’s hard to see Mark Ingram duplicating his production from 2014 moving forward. Drew Brees’ contract has seriously hindered this team financially, and it seems like it’s greatly debilitated their decision-making ability as well.

So this team signed Buster Skrine, Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie? Last I checked you need more than just cornerbacks to win football games. Adding Ryan Fitzpatrick via trade only further convolutes an already murky quarterback situation with mediocre talents at best. The Brandon Marshall trade was semi-upbeat, but it’s difficult to call the offseason moves this team has made anything but confusing.

To call what Chip Kelly has done this offseason confusing would be too forgiving. He has dismantled a once promising nucleus of players by trading away LeSean McCoy and Nick Foles while collecting injury-prone players like they’re sought after commodities in Sam Bradford, Ryan Mathews and DeMarco Murray. Jeremy Maclin left on his own volition, and it’s hard to blame him for abandoning this sinking ship.
