Indianapolis Colts Rumors: Proposition for Extra-Point Rule Change is Crazy

The powers that be within the Indianapolis Colts‘ brass intend on proposing a new rule-change to the point after scoring system, and the NFL will have to review this over the next few weeks in order to decide whether to implement or not. Apparently Indianapolis’ genius idea is to add another extra point opportunity post two-point conversion.

If a team was to convert a two point conversion, they would then spot the ball at the 32 yard line, bring both field goal units onto the field, and then attempt a 50-yard field goal for a whopping one point.

Call me crazy, but football games are already three and a half hours long, so we don’t get to see a huge variety of full length contests any given week. We all know how long switching units can take two teams and then if there is ever, heaven forbid, a penalty for offsides or running into the kicker, this could turn into an additional 15 minutes (with commercials) adding to the already long affair that is watching an NFL game.

Plain and simple, this idea is absolutely outrageous and will never happen. The NFL already has a hard enough time transitioning from one game to another on network television, and adding any activity that happens at a snail’s pace to the game makes zero sense as it would hurt the game. Who knows what the Colts are really up to over there thinking that this will somehow help the NFL.

Leave it to the team with one of the best field-goal kickers in NFL history, Adam Vinatieri, to come up with such an idea.
