2015 NFL Draft: 5 Prospects Miami Dolphins Should Target in First Round

The Miami Dolphins hold the No. 14 overall selection in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. After adding Ndamukong Suh and Jordan Cameron in free agency, the Dolphins will look to fill more needs beginning with their first pick. Miami’s top needs are cornerback, wide receiver, linebacker and offensive line, but they could use help at nearly every position. Here are their top five options.

It’s rare that a safety is taken in the top half of the first round, but Collins could be an option if the Dolphins don’t like what’s available at other positions of need. Collins could pair with Reshad Jones to form a high-level tandem. A 6-foot, 228 pounds, Collins is more comfortable playing closer to the line of scrimmage, but he also has decent playmaking ability in coverage.

The Dolphins already added the prize of free agency in Suh, but more help is needed for what was a porous run defense in 2014. Brown is 6-foot-2 and 319 pounds, but he also possesses the quickness to rush the passer. He would immediately upgrade the position and, at worst, rotate with Earl Mitchell as the team’s second defensive tackle.

The Dolphins offensive line improved a ton in 2014, but it still needs to be addressed. Collins has great feet and quickness, to go along with good strength. He also has good size at 6-foot-4 and 305 pounds, but he has just average arm length for a pass protector. Right now, Collins is a better run blocker than pass protector, so he projects to right tackle, but also has the versatility to move inside to guard.

When Kenny Stills is your projected No. 1 receiver, you need help at the position. Nothing against Stills, he is a solid player, but he's more of a No. 2 receiver. This draft is loaded with receivers, so drafting one in the first round isn’t a must, but if Parker is available at No. 14, Miami will certainly have to consider him. Parker needs to add strength, but 6-foot-2, 209-pound receivers who track the ball at an elite level are hard to find.

The Dolphins are desperate to find a corner to play opposite Brent Grimes. Right now Jamar Taylor and Will Davis are the likely candidates. I think if Waynes is available, the Dolphins will run the card to the table. At 6-foot, 188 pounds, Waynes has most of the traits teams look for in a cornerback. He is instinctive, has good length, has superior athleticism and displays good ball skills.
