New York Jets Should Go All-In On Phillip Rivers

The New York Jets do not currently possess a quarterback who can win them any significant games. However, new GM Mike Maccagnan has made a fair amount of “win now” moves this offseason, which doesn’t make a ton of sense.

Maccagnan acquired Brandon Marshall from the Chicago Bears to pair with Eric Decker, which makes for a solid WR combo. Then, the Jets decided to get the band back together and brought not only Darrelle Revis back to town to fortify the secondary, but also Antonio Cromartie after already signing former Cleveland Browns DB Buster Skrine.

The Jets will have a solid running game with Chris Ivory and a strong offensive line, along one of the best defenses in the NFL. It is strange to have a strong offense, strong defense, but then rely on either Ryan Fitzpatrick or Geno Smith at QB to lead this roster.

That simply makes zero sense and cannot be the Jets’ end game.

With rumors circulating lately that the San Diego Chargers might still be willing to deal QB Phillip Rivers now rather than let him hit free agency next winter, the Jets’ answer at quarterback is as clear as it’ll ever be, and they need to do anything and everything in order to acquire him right this second.

Whispers that suggest he’s, “no good” or “done for” are outrageous. Rivers is coming off a season in which he threw for 4,286 yards (eighth in NFL) and 31 TDs (eighth in NFL) with a 66.5 completion percentage (fourth in NFL). I fully understand he tied with Jay Cutler to lead the NFL in interceptions, and that isn’t a positive thing. But, please explain to me how he’s no good anymore?

Most of the moves the Jets made are not incredibly long-term driven; Revis and Cromartie are 29 and 30 years old, and Marshall is 31. Rivers is 33.

Thus, acquiring Rivers should be the Jets’ endgame, and not a second more should be wasted in doing so. They have a small window to chase a Super Bowl before they have to blow it all up over again to the utter dismay of Jets fans everywhere.
