The Miami Dolphins have made a ton of moves this offseason, but one position that was never really in much debate was quarterback, as they believe Ryan Tannehill can bring them to the promised land. Although it’s still incredibly likely that Matt Moore will be Tannehill’s backup, the organization is closing in on a deal to bring in former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings QB Josh Freeman as an additional insurance policy.

When it comes down to it, this is a wise move by Miami. Say what you will about Freeman, but he’s had some success at the NFL level. In 2010 with the Buccaneers, Freeman was 10-6 with 25 TDs to just five interceptions, and threw for 3,451 yards in what was just his sophomore campaign. Tampa Bay had a horrible 2011 going 4-11 but he rebounded in 2012, throwing for a career high 4,065 yards. The NFL is undoubtedly pass-happy in this modern-day era, but even with that being the case, it’s quite an accomplishment. And that was just two years ago, when he was 25 years old.

Now 27, there’s reason to believe Freeman has something left in the tank. And his time in Minnesota with the Vikings can be completely negated, as it was a recipe for failure to begin with. In the NFL, you’re only as good as your backup QBs, we all know this is the case. Now, in the utterly heartbreaking circumstance that the Dolphins were to somehow lose both Tannehill and Moore, they’ll have someone behind the wheel with experience winning football games.
