2015 NFL Draft: Making the Case For Trae Waynes For Minnesota Vikings At No. 11

Trae Waynes a good fit for Vikings at No. 11 NFL Draft

There is a definite possibility that the Minnesota Vikings will be involved in a first-round trade in the 2015 NFL Draft. But if they do keep their No. 11 pick, cornerback Trae Waynes would be a smart choice.

The Vikings need a lot of help in their secondary heading into the 2015 season. They could really use a speedy corner who has the capability of matching up with some of the most explosive receivers in the league, and I believe Waynes could become that guy. Waynes had an impressive career at Michigan State, starting in his final 27 games for the Spartans. He was named first team All-Big Ten in 2014 and finished the season with 46 tackles, one sack, eight pass breakups and three interceptions.

The combination of speed, size and strength that Waynes brings to the table is special. He is the fastest cornerback in the draft, recording a 40-yard dash time of 4.31 seconds at the NFL Combine. According to many, he should be the first drafted at his position.  The Vikings just need to hope that Waynes doesn’t get snatched up prior to the 11th pick.

While the Vikings have the Adrian Peterson scenario hanging over their heads, they can’t let that distract them from their true needs in this draft.  Yes, they may be offered a trade involving Peterson, but is it worth passing up on the immense talent of Wayne if he’s still on the board at No. 11?  I’m not so sure that would be in the Vikings’ best interest.
