Although free agency is underway, it’s still far from over. There are still plenty of players available with the draft less than a month away, and those don’t even include the rumors regarding players and coaches already on the Giants. Here are the five biggest Giants rumors you need to know with free agency winding down.

He’s running, and that’s great, great news. However, head coach Tom Coughlin said he has no timetable for Cruz’s return to practice. Obviously he’s on the right track, but it has to be a concern for the Giants at the moment. For that reason, the Giants may look into drafting a receiver this year.

Dwayne Harris, the wideout from Dallas, is expected to play the role that David Tyree used to occupy. He can move all over the field on special teams, allowing the Giants more options in the unit. He’s also a capable returner and receiver. Running back Shane Vereen opens up plenty of opportunities in the Giants’ offense as a blocking and receiving back.

The Giants have made a multitude of moves so far in free agency. They’ve brought in linebackers, running backs, wideouts and linemen, and they re-signed tight ends, defensive ends and extended their head coach. According to Las Vegas, the Giants’ odds to win the Super Bowl jumped from 40-1 to 25-1 over that span. That seems like a huge jump for a team that hasn’t brought in a huge name, but it shows that the Giants are on the rise.

Despite all the moves that the Giants have made, safety hasn’t been one of them. They have three unproven safeties on the roster, and there isn’t a safety in the entire draft class worthy of the No. 9 overall pick. Coughlin mentioned a cornerback or two may even have to convert to safety. That’s drastic. It’s also a bit mind-boggling as to why GM Jerry Reese has been so lackadaisical when trying to find a replacement for Antrel Rolle.

Manning’s contract expires at the end of this upcoming season, and they’re not willing to renegotiate until then. It might be a bit risky letting Eli hit the market, but both sides want to come to terms, which means they may, in fact, come to an agreement before free agency technically begins. However, Ryan Nassib has been sitting on the bench, waiting in the wings, and it has to at least be a little worrisome.
