Breaking Down Philadelphia Eagles' Opponents For 2015 NFL Season

By Jerry Landry

Chip Kelly has changed the drapes, moved the furniture and remodeled the metaphorical kitchen during the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2015 offseason. More changes are likely to come, but what won’t change are the opponents on the Eagles’ docket in 2015.

13. Arizona Cardinals

Who doesn’t love a bird bowl? The Arizona Cardinals travel to the Linc in 2015 and hostile Philly fans should be primed to avenge last year’s 24-20 loss in Glendale.

12. New York Giants

The Eagles are looking to trend upward, but so are the New York Giants. The Giants were a kitten mew compared to the boisterous offseason of the Eagles, but they could come out just as improved. I mean, Big Blue did go 6-10 last year.

Why not give RG III a fourth try? Although the Redskins are a joke, the Eagles should still take this team from Washington seriously. Alfred Morris is a solid running back who can hurt you between the hashes.

10. New Orleans Saints

The Drew Brees and Sean Payton roadshow heads into Philly for 2015. The Saints were a dismal 4-4 on the road in 2014 and just 3-5 during a playoff campaign in 2013. Also, there’s the whole “we knocked you out of the playoffs in 2014” revenge factor working against the Brees brigade.

9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs could be the NFC’s biggest sleeper in 2015. Lovie Smith carries a winning percentage of .519 notwithstanding an embarrassing 2014.

8. Buffalo Bills

This will be a great battle of genius versus affable buffoon -- I’ll let Philly fans figure out which is which. The Bills will probably use LeSean McCoy like a rental car, but hopefully Shady will have a little left and that chip on his shoulder will be ready to roll.

7. Miami Dolphins

This matchup in Miami will be perfect for the early snowbirds. The Dolphins introduce Ndamukong Suh and Ryan Tannehill has an added year of job security. Will it matter? I’m leaning toward no. I believe Suh’s contract was too excessive toward Miami’s salary cap, and it’ll start draining the Dolphins by midseason.

6. Carolina Panthers

2015 is the year Cam Newton officially secures a spot as a top-10 quarterback. There will be no more back-to-back lapses and a lot more passing yards. Remember, Newton has thrown for nearly 15,000 yards in just four seasons, and don’t forget that Kelvin Benjamin is entering his second season.

5. Detroit Lions

Detroit is high-powered but low-discipline; perhaps the departures of Suh and Nick Fairley could assuage this, which would mean the Lions might be (gulp) better in 2015. But don’t worry, Eagles fans; Jim Caldwell will geld this gift horse somehow.

4. New York Jets

It’s a good thing Kelly doesn’t think too highly of wideouts, because that’s probably the only thing the Jets can contain. Todd Bowles could be a guru, but all gurus must first go through growing pains.

3. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons have a top 15 QB in Matt Ryan and that’s about it. Roddy White is aging, Julio Jones is all upside but no consistency and the running game is still inconclusive.

The Eagles travel to Gillette for this matchup of NFL mad scientists. Look for a lot of trick plays, odd formations and aggressive monitoring of football inflation.

1. Dallas Cowboys

I’d love to see Troy Aikman and Randall Cunningham suit up for this one. But we’ll likely get Tony Romo and anyone from Sam Bradford to Mark Sanchez to a QB who was on a college campus the last time the Cowboys knocked the Eagles from playoff contention.
