2015 NFL Draft: Atlanta Falcons Seven-Round Mock Draft, Early-April Edition

The Atlanta Falcons have the No. 8 overall pick in the draft. They have plenty of needs and what they do with the pick will largely depend on what happens in front of them. What they do in the first round will also affect the rest of their picks. Atlanta has a total of eight picks this year, with two seventh-rounders. Here is their complete mock draft.

The Falcons desperately need to add talent to their defense. They have been linked to defensive ends such as Shane Ray and Randy Gregory, but both players have fallen some during the evaluation process. On the other hand, Vic Beasley has remained solid as one of the best pass rushers in the class. Beasley will be able to help Atlanta get pressure on the quarterback and can also drop into coverage from time to time.

There have been some rumblings that D.J. Humphries might end up going at the end of the first round. If he falls to the early second, then the Falcons should do everything they can to get him. They have to improve their offensive line, which made things nearly impossible for Matt Ryan last year. Humphries is a great athlete who would give Atlanta a pair of good, young tackles along with Jake Matthews.

Paul Dawson has fallen some in recent weeks, but I think he could be a steal in the third round for a team like Atlanta. Dawson can do a little bit of everything and made as many plays as any linebacker in college last year. He would have a good chance to be a day one starter for the Falcons.

Anthony Chickillo is another guy on a lot of people's radars as a possible sleeper. The concern about him is figuring out what position he will play. He is fundamentally sound and was a productive pass rusher at Miami. Chickillo has a chance to be another guy who makes scouts look bad for dropping a guy based purely on his size.

The Falcons need to add another corner in the draft. Charles Gaines has a chance to be a good nickel cornerback with his tight man to man coverage ability. His tackling leaves a lot to be desired, but teams won't be drafting him for his run-stopping ability. He has above average instincts for this draft class.

Round 6: Wes Saxton, TE, South Alabama

Atlanta really missed Tony Gonzalez last year, as they were near the bottom of the league in tight end production. Wes Saxton is an athletic pass-catching tight end. If he could block, then he would probably be a third or fourth-round pick. The potential matchup problem he would give opposing defenses makes him worth a look in the sixth round.

Round 7: Jordan Taylor, WR, Rice

Jordan Taylor is a tall, lanky wide receiver who could be a deep ball threat in the NFL. Taylor is 6-foot-5, but at just 210 pounds he has people questioning whether or not he will be able to get off press coverage. If he gets bigger and stronger, then he could become a valuable red zone target.

Round 7: Ellis McCarthy, DT, UCLA

Ellis McCarthy probably should have stayed another year in college to improve his draft stock. He had a lot of expectations at UCLA but failed to ever live up to them. In the seventh round, McCarthy is worth the gamble because of the potential upside of him figuring out his talent. Dan Quinn might be the right defensive minded coach to get the most out of him.
