In what can only be described as not an incredibly big surprise given his past, Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib and his brother are reportedly under investigation for assault stemming from an incident that occurred in Dallas early Wednesday morning.

Broncos GM John Elway cannot be shocked by this development whatsoever, as he fully understood the risk his organization was taking by securing Talib’s services prior to the 2014 NFL season. Earlier in his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Talib had been in trouble on numerous occasions. In 2008, he fought a teammate. In 2009, he was arrested for the battery of a taxi-driver. And in 2011, he was accused of assault with a deadly weapon and indicted, but the charges were ultimately dropped as it was a relative’s boyfriend who was the accuser.

Thus, the risk was evident. Obviously, there’s no telling for sure how this current investigation will play out and whether or not Talib will be formally charged. However, typically, where there is smoke, there is fire. And this news must be burning at the loins of Elway and company as the Broncos’ secondary simply cannot afford to be without Talib’s services for any significant length of time. Perhaps now the Broncos will be in need of changing some plans and thinking defensive back as we approach the 2015 NFL Draft.
