2015 NFL Draft: Pittsburgh Steelers Seven-Round Mock Draft: Early-April Edition

The Pittsburgh Steelers celebrated another AFC North title in 2014, but in one of the most competitive divisions in football, there’s no time to rest on their laurels. The Steelers have parted ways with several of their older players this offseason, and they have not been active in free agency, so for Pittsburgh it’s all about reloading through the 2015 NFL Draft.

Pittsburgh's pass defense was dreadful last year, so they need a major upgrade at cornerback. Johnson isn't physically imposing, but he possesses all the necessary skills to be a cover corner in the NFL and is usually secure with his tackles even if he's not a big hitter. He doesn't project as a star, but with 41 college starts under his belt, Johnson is NFL ready and will be a solid cover corner for the Steelers from Day 1.

Troy Polamalu has officially retired, and so the Steelers need to fill the void at safety to help out their lackluster pass defense. Prewitt has the frame and athleticism to play safety in the NFL, in addition to being a great emotional leader for his team and having a nose for the ball -- traits not unlike Polamalu -- making him a sound replacement for the long-time leader of the Pittsburgh defense.

Third Round, 87th Overall - Daryl Williams, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma

The Pittsburgh offensive line needs an upgrade at right tackle, and Williams will be a nice pickup in the third round. He has massive size and great quickness and movement for someone that big. Over the long term, he may move to guard, but since he won't be in charge of the blindside, playing Williams at right tackle shouldn't be a problem, especially since he was a four-year starter in college and is well prepared for the NFL.

Fourth Round, 121st Overall - Davis Tull, Linebacker, Chattanooga

Tull isn't on many radars, but the Steelers need some more options at outside linebacker to help their pass rush, so they'll take a chance on Tull. He played defensive end in college, but will move to linebacker in the NFL, and is one of the fastest linebackers available in the draft. He may be a situational pass rusher at first while he learns the position, but that's enough to make him a contributor for the Pittsburgh defense this year.

Fifth Round, 160th Overall - Kaleb Eulls, Defensive Tackle, Mississippi State

Eulls was a four-year starter in the trenches of the SEC and is one of the most impressive players away from the field in this year's draft, making him a good player to bet on on Day 3. On the field, he has long arms and is strong at the point of attack, giving him a chance to move from a defensive tackle to a 3-4 defensive end, which is a position where the Steelers could use some help.

Sixth Round, 198th Overall - Erick Dargan, Safety, Oregon

Dargan provides more insurance for the Steelers at safety after he led Oregon in tackles and led the Pac 12 in interceptions last season. He doesn't have the ideal size or strength, but he plays fast and physical, and has the mentality of someone who loves to play the game, and those traits can go a long way, especially with the Pittsburgh defense.

Seventh Round, 239th Overall - Cam Thomas, Cornerback, Western Kentucky

Pittsburgh's run on defensive backs does not come to an end, as the Steelers pick up Thomas in the final round of the draft. With a deep cornerback class, the Steelers can wait until late in the draft to pick up a second corner, and Thomas is a nice option. He has a good frame, and he plays physical and with a great deal of effort, which will suit Pittsburgh and give him a chance to develop and improve.
