The already thin Pittsburgh Steelers defensive backfield got even thinner after the retirements of Troy Polamalu and Ike Taylor. There is no doubt that secondary personnel will be targeted by Pittsburgh during the 2015 NFL Draft. Here are the best late-round options at the position.

5. Jaquiski Tartt, S, Samford – Projected Round 3

Jaquiski Tartt doesn’t have the publicity of the big-name college stars, but he most certainly has the size and skills to compete. Tartt is big, at 6-foot-1 and 221 pounds, and he likes to get up to the line and help against the run. He has the strength to dislodge passes at the point of contact. Tartt also is a big risk taker – something Pittsburgh fans have come to respect in their safeties.

4. Doran Grant, CB/S, Ohio State – Projected Round 4

Doran Grant is a very intelligent football player. He’s rarely fooled by play-action or QB look-offs. Grant was very active in run support and proved himself to be an above average tackler. He might not have the raw skill to be an outside cover corner, but Grant could definitely find a home covering the slot and being used in zone packages.

3. Gerod Holliman, S, Louisville – Projected Round 5

Gerod Holliman will either make GMs look like the smartest person in the room or look incredibly foolish. Holliman only started one year a Louisville, but he made it count with 14 interceptions. He didn’t display the ability to tackle well, but with such raw ball-hawking talent, Holliman is worth a shot in the draft.

2. Ladarius Gunter, CB, Miami – Projected Round 6

Ladarius Gunter has great size for a corner at 6-foot-1. He was good in press coverage and has natural ball skills but struggles down the field and in zone coverages at times. Gunter had no issues helping against the run. His real contribution to Pittsburgh would be on kick-coverage/special teams, which would allow him time to develop.

1. Kyshoen Jarrett, S, Virginia Tech – Projected Round 7

Kyshoen Jarrett is very physical which allowed him to be productive in stopping the run and finishing tackles. Jarrett has been compared to a linebacker playing safety. He is another player who can contribute on special teams straight away while allowing the coaching staff to develop his talents.
