For months, there’s been talk of Adrian Peterson and his agent Ben Dogra insisting on the Minnesota Vikings finding a trade partner for the All-Pro running back. Well, based on this tweet from Yahoo! Sports’ Charles Robinson, it appears Dogra is ready to make a deal happen.
Rumors were already going around that there are six teams — the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers — in the hunt to trade for Peterson. Now it appears the Buccaneers have taken the lead — or are Dogra’s favorite NFL team.
The Vikings are rumored to be looking for a first-round pick and a starting cornerback in return for Peterson. The Buccaneers own the No. 1 overall pick, which they wouldn’t give up for a 30-year-old running back with a $12.75 million salary in 2015. They also own the No. 34 overall pick at the top of second round, which could be considered a very late first-round pick. Tampa Bay has a few solid cornerbacks they could dangle — Johnthan Banks or Leonard Johnson, maybe?
Another option for the Vikings could be taking the Buccaneers’ second-round pick and swapping Peterson for Doug Martin, a talented young running back who has struggled after his rookie season in Tampa Bay’s subpar offense.
Who knows exactly what Dogra’s post meant? It’s certainly gotten the rumor mill whirling.
