Pittsburgh Steelers

The 2015 NFL schedule has been released, and the Pittsburgh Steelers face one of the toughest roads to playoff contention. This is a quick game-by-game prediction and breakdown for Pittsburgh’s season.

Week 1, Thurs. Sept. 10 at New England, 8:30 p.m. on NBC

Week 1, Thurs. Sept. 10 at New England, 8:30 p.m. on NBC

What did Pittsburgh do to anger the football gods? Le’Veon Bell will be suspended for this game. Pittsburgh has an unproven, and incomplete, defensive secondary. Tom Brady still throws on a Patriots jersey. I don’t see too many ways Pittsburgh can slow down New England’s offense.

Prediction: Pittsburgh loses 31-17.

Week 2, Sun. Sept. 20 vs. San Francisco, 1:00 p.m. on FOX

Week 2, Sun. Sept. 20 vs. San Francisco, 1:00 p.m. on FOX

It wasn’t too long ago that San Francisco was a threat to win the Super Bowl. Now the 49ers have a new head coach, several key defensive players going into retirement and a QB in Colin Kaepernick who needs to prove himself. This is a good bounce-back game for Pittsburgh as they should have success moving the ball at home. This should also be a game that gives the defense some confidence.

Prediction: Pittsburgh wins 24-13.

Week 3, Sun. Sept. 27 at St. Louis, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

Nick Foles St. Louis Rams

St. Louis did away with the Sam Bradford era and brought in another curious QB in Nick Foles. If Foles can play like he did in 2013, then St. Louis has some weapons and a good defense that could surprise some teams early in the year. This is Pittsburgh’s last game without Bell, and it will be closer than most would expect.

Prediction: Pittsburgh wins 27-21.

Week 4, Thurs. Oct. 1 vs. Baltimore, 8:25 p.m. on CBS

Last season was an aberration as Baltimore and Pittsburgh didn’t play close games. Baltimore won 26-6 in Week 2, and Pittsburgh won in Week 9 by a score of 43-23. Baltimore won the playoff matchup, sans Bell who returns this game, 30-17. He comes back at home where the defense should be finding its identity.

Prediction: Pittsburgh wins 20-17.

Week 5, Mon. Oct. 12 at San Diego, 8:30 p.m. on ESPN

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Since 2010, Pittsburgh has played four times on the West Coast; the have lost all four games. San Diego will continue to hover around .500 as long as Philip Rivers is the QB. Pittsburgh usually performs well on Monday Night Football, but they will struggle here.

Prediction: Pittsburgh loses 23-13.

Week 6, Sun. Oct. 18 vs. Arizona, 1:00 p.m. on FOX

Week 6, Sun. Oct. 18 vs. Arizona, 1:00 p.m. on FOX

Pittsburgh-West comes to town. Arizona played above its head last season. Carson Palmer has struggled to stay healthy, and the Cardinals seem like they are a QB away from putting it together and really contending. They will regress this season and will be susceptible to Pittsburgh’s running attack in this one.

Prediction: Pittsburgh wins 28-10.

Week 7, Sun. Oct. 25 at Kansas City, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

Week 7, Sun. Oct. 25 at Kansas City, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

Alex Smith Kansas City Chiefs
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City is another team that has a question mark hanging over them. Has Andy Reid turned Alex Smith into a legitimate game managing QB? As long as Kansas City’s defense plays up to the level they’ve shown, the game should be competitive. Competitive games always favor the home team.

Prediction: Pittsburgh loses 17-10.

Week 8, Sun. Nov. 1 vs. Cincinnati, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

Andy Dalton Cincinnati Bengals

Week 8, Sun. Nov. 1 vs. Cincinnati, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

Andy Dalton Cincinnati Bengals
Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Andy Dalton is the bizarro universe version of Ben Roethlisberger. Dalton plays well for most of the regular season, but cannot produce in the postseason. Pittsburgh has had great success against Dalton and Cincinnati in recent years. Expect this trend to continue at home.

Prediction: Pittsburgh wins 41-24.

Week 9, Sun. Nov. 8 vs. Oakland, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

Derek Carr Oakland Raiders

Week 9, Sun. Nov. 8 vs. Oakland, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

Derek Carr Oakland Raiders
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Derek Carr looked alright in 2014, and the Raiders should be better this year. Unfortunately, Oakland is not good at travelling to the east, so Pittsburgh will handle this game easily.

Prediction: Pittsburgh wins 27-7.

Week 10, Sun. Nov. 15 vs. Cleveland, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

Johnny Manziel Cleveland Browns

Week 10, Sun. Nov. 15 vs. Cleveland, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

Johnny Manziel Cleveland Browns
Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland is an organization that just hasn’t been able to stabilize. Brian Hoyer is out at QB, and hopefully Johnny Manziel is recovering since he checked himself into rehab. Cleveland’s defense will play well, but the offense will provide no support.

Prediction: Pittsburgh wins 30-10.

Week 12, Sun. Nov. 29 at Seattle, 4:25 p.m. on CBS

Russell Wilson Seattle Seahawks

If there was ever a game on the West Coast Pittsburgh could win, this would be the one. They will be coming off a bye week, but this will conclude a three-game homestand for Seattle. Pittsburgh should be able to frustrate Russell Wilson, so expect a close game.

Prediction: Pittsburgh loses 21-14.

Week 13, Sun. Dec. 6 vs. Indianapolis, 8:30 p.m. on NBC

Andrew Luck Indianapolis Colts

Week 13, Sun. Dec. 6 vs. Indianapolis, 8:30 p.m. on NBC

Andrew Luck Indianapolis Colts
Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh won a wild shootout against Indy last year 51-34. Andrew Luck and Roethlisberger will light up a cold Sunday night in December, and the weather will favor Pittsburgh.

Prediction: Pittsburgh wins 38-31.

Week 14, Sun. Dec. 13 at Cincinnati, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

A.J. Green Cincinnati Bengals

Week 14, Sun. Dec. 13 at Cincinnati, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

A.J. Green Cincinnati Bengals

Antonio Brown loves playing against Cincinnati. Last year he had over 100 yards in both meetings, so expect more of the same this season. Pittsburgh continues to haunt Cincinnati.

Prediction: Pittsburgh wins 17-14.

Week 15, Sun. Dec. 20 vs. Denver, 4:25 p.m. on CBS

Week 15, Sun. Dec. 20 vs. Denver, 4:25 p.m. on CBS

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The window of opportunity is almost shut on Denver’s chances of winning a Super Bowl. Peyton Manning is brilliant and will see this as a good late-season test for his team. Pittsburgh's secondary will learn a good lesson before a possible playoff run.

Prediction: Pittsburgh loses 34-20.

Week 16, Sun. Dec. 27 at Baltimore, 8:30 p.m. on NBC

Week 16, Sun. Dec. 27 at Baltimore, 8:30 p.m. on NBC

Terrell Suggs Baltimore Ravens
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

A late-season game with meaning between Baltimore and Pittsburgh could decide the AFC North. How about reversing the roles of 2014? Baltimore wins the game and wins the AFC North but loses to Pittsburgh in the playoffs.

Prediction: Pittsburgh loses 28-20.

Week 17, Sun. Jan. 3 at Cleveland, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

Ben Roethlisberger Le'Veon Bell Pittsburgh Steelers

Week 17, Sun. Jan. 3 at Cleveland, 1:00 p.m. on CBS

Ben Roethlisberger Le'Veon Bell Pittsburgh Steelers
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland will have nothing to play for and will be discussing firing head coach Mike Pettine at this point. Pittsburgh will control their own destiny, as Bell, Brown and Roethlisberger power their way into the postseason.

Prediction: Pittsburgh wins 35-6.
