If you’re the NFL owners, why would you keep a commish in place who has squandered all faith/trust/leeway with your players and your fans?

The Bill Simmons “ESPN Suspension Watch” has officially resumed. Suspended last September for calling NFL commissioner Roger Goodell “A liar,” Simmons’ psyche continues to ooze on Twitter, projecting analogous to any compulsion that just won’t go away.
Biggest prob of Goodell era: RG screwed up so many decisions that, for stuff that should be easy like Hardy, he’s lost all leeway w/ NFLPA.

“Every time the NFL decides to make something up, we are obligated to hold them accountable to the collective-bargaining agreement.”

Simmons makes salient points and illuminates his power as an entity, even to the point of possibly lording over ESPN and his pet project Grantland. Simmons refuses to be a puppet and this deserves respect, but the Goodell bashing has ironically become redundant. Not ironic because it’s 100 percent past its time, but odd because neither Goodell or Simmons can escape the relevance of every log tossed onto the fire.
This story will build interest and intensity as we near the NFL season, but perhaps the most interesting thing will apex when Simmons’ contract with ESPN is up later this year.
Could Simmons be worth more pound-for-pound on his own than even the roaring inertia of the Worldwide Leader?
