With all of the defensive moves that were made during the offseason, the Chicago Bears decided to use their seventh overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft on West Virginia wide receiver Kevin White. Many might have thought that new head coach John Fox, who is a defensive-minded coach, would have continued to beef up the defense with Washington nose tackle Danny Shelton, Clemson outside linebacker Vic Beasley, or Michigan State cornerback Trae Waynes. However, making the move to get White made a lot of sense.

We already know that the Bears will be without their main target from the past three years, Brandon Marshall, who was traded to the New York Jets. And just yesterday, general manager Ryan Pace announced that the organization is willing to trade Pro Bowl tight end Martellus Bennett. So not snatching White in the first round would have left quarterback Jay Cutler and the rest of the Bears’ offense with very few weapons in their aerial attack.

Chicago did manage to sign free-agent wide receiver Eddie Royal, but that addition definitely won’t be enough to fill the void left by Marshall, and the potential departure of Bennett. Furthermore, the jury is still out on wide receiver Marquess Wilson, who missed the majority of the 2014 season with a broken collarbone.

I must say that I didn’t think that White would be the Bears’ first pick in this draft. But, seeing who was on the board once Chicago was on the clock, they did make the right choice by getting the best player available. White could end up being a great complement to Alshon Jeffery, and a vital part in Chicago’s offense.
