The New York Giants needed an offensive lineman and they ended up getting one, though it wasn’t the name connected to them in the weeks leading up to the 2015 NFL Draft. Ereck Flowers is a better tackle prospect than Brandon Scherff who is probably better suited to play guard. The addition of Flowers gives the offensive line depth and a plug-and-play right tackle which will allow Justin Pugh to slide inside to guard.

Flowers, a University of Miami product, has the size, he stands 6-foot-6 and 329 pounds, and agility to potentially develop into a solid left tackle, a position he played in college. Right now, he is better suited to play right tackle where he will be able to use his size and agility to overcome any mistakes he makes. He is still raw and still developing, but he could very well become the best tackle taken in this draft.

The best term to describe Flowers is that he is a bully. He will use his size and power to his advantage and push defensive linemen back and he plays with a mean streak. Many had him rated as the best offensive tackle in the draft, but he still has work to do.

Despite being raw, he does learn from his mistakes and works hard on and off the field. More importantly, given the Giants’ history with injuries, he is durable and will play banged up. Health has been a huge issue along the Giants’ offensive line, and everywhere really, so adding a durable player like Flowers should help.

With the addition of Flowers the Giants will most likely feature Will Beatty at left tackle, Geoff Schwartz at left guard, Weston Richburg at center, Justin Pugh at right guard and Flowers at right tackle. If healthy, this is probably the best offensive line the Giants will feature in years. Jerry Reese might have found another gem at a position of need, something he has had a knack for in recent years.
