Kansas City Chiefs Will Regret Drafting Mitch Morse

With their second round pick, the Kansas City Chiefs decided to address the offensive line with the selection of versatile lineman Mitch Morse. While Morse certainly has NFL-caliber talent, this was a foolish decision for the Chiefs. For a team with very little in the way of receiving talent, it would have made much more sense for the team to pick up somebody like Jaelen Strong and solidify their receiving core. Instead, the team decided to add a player they likely could have gotten a round later.

Morse will be expected to step right in and be a solid replacement for departed center Rodney Hudson; however, I’m not convinced he’s far enough along in his development to handle the speed of the NFL game. He certainly has the versatility, strength and agility you want to see in a young offensive lineman, but if the Chiefs were really looking to improve in a big way, they would have picked up Strong and waited a round to pick up Morse or a player of similar talent.

Whereas Strong could have come right in and provided the team with a legitimate play making threat, Morse will likely struggle for a while before settling in. I’m not totally sold on Morse as a prospect, and I honestly think the Chiefs may have wasted their second round pick on him. In the first couple rounds, teams should add players that will fill a need and contribute right away, and I don’t think Morse does either of those things.

Overall, this is a pick that I believe the Chiefs are going to regret. Morse isn’t the type of player to spend a second round pick on, particularly when a receiver of Strong’s talent is still on the board. Maybe Morse will prove me wrong, but right now, I’m very skeptical of this pick for the Chiefs.
