NFL Draft Grades for the Denver Broncos

Coming off a 12-4 season, the Denver Broncos didn’t have as many needs as other teams. However, building through the draft is the key to success, and the Broncos managed to pick up some players who can make an instant impact tomorrow (not literally tomorrow, but once the season actually starts).

With the draft officially over, here’s a look at how these players graded out.

Let’s remember that the season is basically a lifetime from now (or that is just how it seems), so a lot can change now until the new season goes down.

Round 1 (No. 23): Shane Ray, OLB, Missouri

Round 1 (No. 23): Shane Ray, OLB, Missouri Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports
The Broncos already had DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller, so they didn't necessarily need Shane Ray. But hey, at least this team will have pass rushers who will give opposing teams nightmares. Ray also, of course, has some off-the-field issues, making this pick all that more interesting. He is a very talented player regardless, just not exactly what the Broncos needed.

Round 2 (No. 59): Ty Sambrailo, OT, Colorado State

Round 2 (No. 59): Ty Sambrailo, OT, Colorado State Lance Iversen-USA TODAY Sports
From Colorado State to Denver -- not a bad deal. As an athletic lineman, Ty Sambrailo fits the Kubiak offense. For that, he gets a pretty solid grade. After all, a player can have all the talent in the world, but not necessarily fit in with a team, which sometimes spells doom.

Round 3 (No. 92): Jeff Heuerman, TE, Ohio State

There's nothing wrong with a team picking up a great blocker at the tight end position, which is exactly what the Broncos managed to do. Heuerman is coming off a national championship with the Buckeyes and Denver wanted him, so it is hard to give him a bad grade given that.

Round 4 (No. 133): Max Garcia, C, Florida

There's nothing like a versatile player. Although Florida has had its recent struggles, the talent has not been in question. The versatile Max Garcia should have no problem making a living in the NFL.

Round 5 (No. 164): Lorenzo Doss, CB, Tulane

Coming out of the fifth round, there is no doubt that Lorenzo Doss will have to earn his spot. However, he has been known to pick off a pass or two from opposing QBs, and Denver has to like the sound of that.

Round 6 (No. 203): Darius Kilgo, DT, Maryland

This late in the draft (and Denver certainly has a ton of late-round picks), a team is just hoping to find the steal of the draft. Who knows if Darius Kilgo is going to be that player. At the very least, the Broncos are at least addressing their defensive line with this pick.

With these seventh-round picks, it's really hard to say if the player is even going to make the roster, let alone have a major impact for the team. The Broncos already have Peyton Manning and a backup just waiting to get his name called, so Trevor Siemian is nothing more than an interesting pick.

Josh Furman had a strong Pro Day, and that strong Pro Day led to him getting picked up by the Denver Broncos. Everyone's a winner here.
