2015 NFL Draft Grades For The Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans didn’t pull off any franchise-changing trades in the 2015 NFL Draft like many projected, but they picked a few solid players to bolster some of their weakest positions. Still a long way from being a playoff-ready team, some of the players they drafted left fans pleased, and others left everyone scratching their heads. Here are the 2015 NFL Draft grades for the Titans.

Round 1: (No. 2) – Marcus Mariota QB, Oregon

Round 1: (No. 2) – Marcus Mariota QB, Oregon

Grade: B-

A smart, athletic quarterback who thinks to pass first and runs when necessary, Mariota is going to be a fantastic quarterback in the NFL. Now, if only the Titans could find a way to block for their new quarterback.

Round 2: (No. 40) – Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma

Grade: B+/F

I hate this pick for the Titans not because he’s going to be a bust at the NFL level, but because some character issues don’t deserve more than one chance. If he can stay out of trouble, he has the potential to be a go-to receiver for Mariota, especially in the red zone. Until he can prove that, however, don't expect him to be beloved by the fans.

Round 3: (No. 66) – Jeremiah Poutasi, OG, Utah

Round 3: (No. 66) – Jeremiah Poutasi, OG, Utah

Grade: C-

This was a pick that left many scratching their heads, Poutasi was projected to go far later in the draft. Maybe the Titans believed another team would make a move and panicked.

Round 4: (No. 100) - Angelo Blackson, DT, Auburn

Round 4: (No. 100) - Angelo Blackson, DT, Auburn

Grade: C+

Labeled a “Dick LeBeau” pick, Blackson fits LeBeau’s scheme. He’s a decent player and makes the defensive line more dangerous, but I don’t see how this pick makes sense with available players like T.J. Clemmings and Trey Flowers to fill other needs.

Round 4: (No. 108) – Jalston Fowler, FB, Alabama

Round 4: (No. 108) – Jalston Fowler, FB, Alabama

Grade: D

Arguably the Titans’ worst pick in the draft, Fowler could have been chosen much later. The Alabama fullback has been known to go for “boom” plays instead of smart ones, and could be as much of a liability as he is an asset.

Round 5: (No. 138) – David Cobb, RB, Minnesota

Grade: B

It’s been said that Bishop Sankey, who was last year’s second-round pick for the Titans, would have been a possible fifth-round pick in this draft. The running back position was just that deep. Although a slower runner than some of the other backs available, Cobb is a powerful, capable back who could be a great pick-up for the Titans down the road.

Round 6: (No. 177) – Deiontrez Mount, OLB, Louisville

Round 6: (No. 177) – Deiontrez Mount, OLB, Louisville

Grade: A-

Mount was a steal this late in the draft. Although he isn’t as highly touted as several other players in his position, he has a love for the game and a motor that just can’t be taught. Watch for Mount to get significant playing time as a rookie, especially as the first or second man off the bench.

Round 6: (Pick 208) – Andy Gallik, C, Boston College

Round 6: (Pick 208) – Andy Gallik, C, Boston College

Grade: B-

I like Gallik, I really do. However, the Titans should have addressed their offensive line needs far earlier in the draft. Gallik will compete for a starting job, but he may not be capable of earning it.

Round 7: (Pick No. 245), Tre McBride, WR, William & Mary

Round 7: (Pick No. 245), Tre McBride, WR, William & Mary

Grade: A

A player many thought would go a little earlier than this, McBride is a steal. Expect him to be a very good player down the road.
