The Oakland Raiders are determined to upgrade their offensive line this offseason, which is why they decided to snag Miami (FL) guard Jon Feliciano in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

In terms of overall talent, Feliciano isn’t going to develop into a Pro Bowler. However, in terms of toughness, physicality and grit, the Raiders couldn’t have asked for much more. You better believe that Tony Bergstrom and Austin Howard will feel plenty of pressure this upcoming season as Feliciano pushes them for the starting right guard position.

What Feliciano brings to the table is immense power and size in the running game. Measuring in at 6’4”, 323 pounds, the former Hurricane is an absolute mauler in the middle. He’s an excellent run blocker with the strength and footwork to hold his own as a pass protector as well.

Feliciano also brings the versatility to make an impact for the Raiders across the board. During his days at Miami, the big man played just about every position along the offensive line. Although he doesn’t have the speed to handle the left tackle position in the NFL, he can fill in at either guard spot or the right tackle position, which will give Oakland flexibility.

It’s certainly not a sexy pick, but the addition of Feliciano proves the Raiders are invested in protecting sophomore quarterback Derek Carr. They already added top center Rodney Hudson this offseason via free agency, and have high expectations for sophomore guard Gabe Jackson. Feliciano just gives them more size and versatility to work with along the front five.

Nice job, Raiders.
